I had now no heart, so that I lost all my love for the Munchkin girl, and did not care whether I married her or not.

The Tin Woodman’s story is super sad to me, and seems to be about rationalizing one’s own falling out of love. I had a lot of false starts making an illustration for it because I wasn’t sure how to represent him having his body replaced piece by piece, but I think it’s better if we don’t really see that happen. These two little drawings will probably go on opposite pages.
